Capnography Resources

Here you will find the resources available to deliver a capnography teaching package to recovery staff. This removes one key barrier to the introduction of something which is now seen as minimum standard monitoring in recovery areas, both for adult and paediatric anaesthesia.

Click here to view the AAGBI guideline.

The teaching package comprises;

  1. A short powerpoint presentation delivered to recovery staff as an introduction to capnography. This takes approx. 15-20 minutes and is ideally suited to be delivered during CME/CEHD sessions within theatres. Also can be delivered easily in small groups teaching sessions.
  2. A workbook which recovery staff are asked to read through.
  3. An assessment (which is still in use at this time so will not be shared online) to reinforce the important learning points from the workbook.
  4. A certificate of completion. This allows recovery staff to verify they have received training in the use of capnogrpahy, and allows the trust to be able to record that training has been delivered.
  5. A ‘bedhead sign’ which is displayed at each bedspace in recovery to aid the staff in recognising what is normal and what is not. This, ideally will aid as a reference in the initial implementation of capnography and subsequently as a teaching tool for new members of staff.

The (editable) powerpoint presentation can be downloaded here

The (editable) workbook can be downloaded here here

The assessment is not available freely here, as it is still in use in its current form.

The certificate of completion for RHC Glasgow can be downloaded here

Anyone who is interested in introducing this teaching package can e-mail me at nealwillis@nhs.net to request the assessment or to discuss the introduction of CO2 into recovery.
