Further to the inclusion of the ‘eponyms’ app from Dr Lee’s talk at the recent SPAN/SAG meeting, we would like to direct you towards another online resource with useful information.
Taken from the website: “Orphanet is the reference portal for information on rare diseases and orphan drugs, for all audiences. Orphanet’s aim is to help improve the diagnosis, care and treatment of patients with rare diseases.”
The site is available at: http://www.orpha.net/consor/cgi-bin/index.php
Information about the ‘eponyms’ app is already available with other useful information in the SPAN/SAG menu on the right.

We are delighted to announce that there is a brand new site for accessing resources for paediatric airway management. Look to the menus on the right of this webpage for “Airway Management Resources”. We hope that the information here will be helpful both for everyday management and for assisting in service development countrywide. Coming soon will be a further, multi-authored document compiling a lot of this information into one place. An announcement will be made soon.
In the meantime please do get in touch at nealwillis@nhs.net if there is any other airway management information or advice you would like to see uploaded to the website, or if you have any feedback we would be delighted to hear from you.

The talks from the recent SPAN/SAG Airway Meeting are now available on the website; look to the tabs to the right of this webpage. For Dr Ball’s talk there are references only due to consent and copyright surrounding some of the images and similarly for Dr Lee’s talk there are some missing images. We are certain both authors would happily answer any questions if there were any from delegates or interested parties. Please contact SPAN in the first instance. The lively debate between Dr Walker and Mr Kubba is in progress and will hopefully be available soon…

It is with great regret that we announce the untimely death of Dr Mark Bloch on Saturday 18th October 2014, former paediatric anaesthetist at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. A native Zimbabwean, Mark came to Aberdeen via Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals as well as training in South Africa. He had an enthusiasm for clinical work that few could emulate, and had built up a pioneering approach to simulation while in London. During his time in Aberdeen he continued his interests in this and critical care, and was well known to many in Scotland. Following a career change he found new challenges in his work with BASICS and the Scottish Ambulance Service, developing the role of the anaesthetist in Prehospital Care. He was one of two anaesthetists who contributed to the creation of a Grampian Immediate Care Scheme, attending many sick and injured in the Grampian Region.
He leaves a wife and two daughters, to whom we direct our deepest condolences.
